Back To The Future day brought a whole bunch of hype to the internet. It was the day where everyone celebrated the film but also it was the day that Nike announced self-lacing Air Mags. Back To The Future star Michael J. Fox met up with Nike reps in NYC for the first reveal of the new Air Mags. That video of Fox trying on the sneakers went viral but later that night, the shoes received the official unveiling on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Now that everybody has seen the "futuristic" sneaker come to life, we're sure that everyone wants to know how they actually work. Forbes recently took a look at the patent for the lacing system and what they found was a simple system. A motor is placed in the foot and ankle area along with other moving parts. Once you place your foot into the sneaker, it detects the mass and the laces then tighten up. Following that are green and red buttons that allow you to loosen or tighten the laces for your comfort. If you take a look above, the photos of the patent somewhat show you how everything works. The new Air Mags are set to release in 2016 and just like the original pair, they will be auctioned off and all proceeds will be donated to the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's.
